Anyone can answer but I really would like to hear from personal trainers or anyone who has experienced this type of situation before.
I was talking to a woman who said that she can achieve all her weight loss and fitness goals all on her own because she read some books telling her how to do it.
She basically told me that all my schooling and degrees are worthless because she can get the same advice I could give her online and concluded that all trainers are overpaid and unnecessary because all you have to do is to diet and exercise and you can look and feel great.
This would not be the first person I have heard this crap from, but why do we even bother to get certified through schooling? Why go to college and get these degrees if we are just going to be disrespected and discarded for a fricken book?
Geez and guess what? the books are written by certified trainers in most cases.
I am very disgruntled right now.
Trainers how do you deal with this?

Hi,
I started weight training a month and half ago (I’m a girl, 20 yrs old, slim, and I go to the gym about 4 times a week). At first, my muscles ached so… but now, even when I lift the weights more often, nothing hurts! Does that mean that I have to increase the weight in order to sustain further muscle development?
My goal isn’t to be like a body-builder-type woman… I just want to develop some more muscle and to be stronger. Of course, toning, too! So how come my muscles stopped hurting and never started hurting again? Have they already grow to match the weights that I’m lifting?
(I do thighs, shins, hips, stomach, lower back, deltoid, biceps, and side of thorax mostly. I also jog occasionally and stretch before exercising, if that helps you get an idea of my situation. Oh, and I eat right – no special diet, but I do make sure to get protein in every meal.)

I’m an obese woman (334 lbs, 5′7″) who is dedicated to finally losing the weight.
I’ve modified the diet that made me fat (no more fast food, ice cream, or soda; mostly lean protein and veggies, water and iced tea)
While I really enjoy just hopping in the water and treading water at my apartment’s pool for a couple hours, and I walk about 20 min daily (I hate that), I keep reading about weight training in articles about exercise for overweight people.
I can’t really afford to join a gym or hire a personal trainer to teach me how to use weights without hurting myself.
Is weight training at this stage of my weight loss entirely necessary? If so, are there any good web links to show how to use everyday objects to do so without causing injury?
To add, I had ankle arthroscopy in April and am still healing from that, so stair climbing and other exercise that bears weight is painful and I’m afraid it will inhibit healing, so that is out of the question right now.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!!!

When I asked my doctor about weight training, she suggested to not lift anything heavier than 20lbs. That just seems ridiculous to me. I am naturally strong for a woman, and have been lifting heavy for over 10 years. I do plan to go a bit lighter, but limiting myself to 20 lbs would be a wast of time at the gym on most exercises for me.
Has anyone else lifted as usual, or close to during pregnancy? Don’t you think monitoring your heart rate, breathing correctly and being controlled should allow you to lift heavier than 20lbs?

My fiancee just graduated BMT for the USAF. It has always been a dream for me to serve in the USAF as well, since I was a young teenager, but I am not a model candidate. I don’t exercise often or at all most times, I am a very sensitive person as far as criticism goes, and I like to change my mind constantly when it comes to goals and aspirations. I want the structure of the military life and I was told that BMT is nothing like how the real military life is. I just wanted to know how many women out there have been like me and made it through BMT. I know it will be hard, probably the hardest thing I’ll ever do. But when was there a moment you thought you would just give up and decided not to? What drove you to keep going? What goals did you set in your mind to get through it? What were your major achievements as a person and what did you learn about yourself when it was over? Is there any advice someone can give me on surviving BMT successfully? What kind of training would I need?

I am just starting back with exercising and strength training. I had GBS back in 06 and since then I have lost a total of 155 lbs. i don’t have allot of extra skin that usually comes with losing a massive amount of weight but I do need to tone up now and gain strength. I don’t have allot of upper body strength and i could use more in my lower body. it has been a year since I have exercised or lifted weights, how can I transition back into it without over doing it. this is my second day back to curves for women and I can already tell that I am working muscles that I haven’t in a while. is it good to drink protein drinks before and after my workouts? should I workout every day but alternate fat burning exercise with strength training? what weight is safe to start out with? is the yoga ball (or balance ball) the best to use for abdominal exercise? I have the firm exercise dvd as well as yoga for weight loss and burn and firm pilates. I don’t want to get bulky. please help
